Sialkot History

Sialkot is one of the important industrial cities of Pakistan. It has very ancient history. Sialkot was founded by Raja Sul and later it was reconstructed by Raja Salivahian, he also built a fort in the city, thus the city was given the name "Sialkot" which means the "Fort of Sia". After independence Muslim population of Sialkot supported Muslim league and Muhammad Ali Jinnah and many Muslims settled here after migrating from India. The city has been affected by the wars of 1965 and 1971 because of its location; it is located near the border of India. Sialkot is known for manufacturing and export of many items such as surgical instruments, musical instruments, sports goods, leather goods, textile goods etc. Sialkot is the second largest source of foreign exchange earnings for Pakistan because of its exports' and remittances from overseas manpower.

Allama Muhammad iqbal

Poet & Philosopher

  • Sir Muhammad Iqbal (9 November 1877 - 21 April 1938), widely known as Allama Iqbal, was a poet, philosopher and politician, as well as an academic, barrister and scholar in British India who is widely regarded as having inspired the Pakistan Movement. He is called the "Spiritual Father of Pakistan".He is considered one of the most important figures in Urdu literature, with literary work in both Urdu and Persian.

  • Faiz Ahmad Faiz MBE, NI (13 February 1911 - 20 November 1984) was a Indo-Pakistani leftist poet and author, and one of the most celebrated writers of the Urdu language. Among other accolades, Faiz was nominated for Nobel Prize in Literature and won the Lenin Peace Prize. Born in Punjab, British India, Faiz went on to study at Government College and Oriental College.He went on to serve in the British Indian Army and was awarded in the British Empire Medal.

  • Shoaib Malik (born 1 February 1982) is a Pakistani cricketer and former captain of the Pakistani side from 2007 to 2009. He made his One-Day International debut in 1999 against the West Indies and his Test debut in 2001 against Bangladesh. On 3 November 2015, he announced his retirement from Test cricket to focus on 2019 Cricket World Cup. On 2 July 2018, he became the first male cricketer to play 100 T20Is.

Shahnaz Sheikh

Hockey Player

  • Shahnaz Sheikh is a retired Pakistani field hockey player. He was born at Sialkot, Pakistan. In 2014, he was the head coach of Pakistan National Hockey Team. A forward, Shahnaz Sheikh played between 1969 and 1978. He was capped 68 times and scored 45 goals for the Pakistan National Hockey Team. He won Silver in 1972 and Bronze in 1976 Olympics . Shahnaz won the 1971 Field Hockey World Cup and was runner-up in 1975 and won again in 1978. Shahnaz was one of the most skilled hockey players that Pakistan had produced.

  • General Qamar Javed Bajwa (born 11 November 1960), NI(M), HI(M), is the 10th and Ex- Chief of Army Staff of the Pakistan Army. A four-star rank army general, he was appointed to the military office on 29 November 2016. According to Forbes magazine, Bajwa is the 68th most powerful person in the world.Born in Karachi, Bajwa was educated at the Sir Syed College and Gordon College in Rawalpindi before joining the Pakistan Military Academy in 1978.
